Commanding the same 6 string he’s been playing since college, Paul’s guitar playing matches his songwriting like a hand in a glove. Controlled, emotive, and precise playing match original narratives that pivot from clever, to sweet, to raw. With chops and a voice that can hold up perfectly well as a solo act, in a band setting, Paul can spread his wings and dig deep into leads, fills, and take a tune from campfire jam to center stage. His musical history includes a somewhat unlikely Punk chapter with Ready Steady Torpedo in addition to successful solo work. Paul hails from the Lanesville Nook of Gloucester.
Armed with 7 chords and a rhyming dictionary, Beverly’s Doug Turnbull can just barely consider himself a singer/songwriter. He is a veteran of the Boston roots scene, as the longtime frontman of Creek River String Band. With a voice more powerful than controlled, an ear for harmony, a foot that needs to tap, and a near inability to take anything seriously, he has neither pride nor shame. The nicest thing anyone has ever said about his songwriting is that it’s idiosyncratic. He takes that as a compliment because he keeps forgetting to look it up to see what it actually means.
Gloucesterite Carl somewhat reluctantly swapped his humbuckers for brushes and his amp for a wooden drum kit he designed and built using the computer. In addition to being technologically literate, he can lay down a hell of a beat that keeps the train on the track (for our railroad themed set), keeps the rest of the fellas pulling their oars in time (for nautical numbers), and keeps all of our our hearts going on (for our Celine Dion covers). Carl is also the brains behind our recording and live sound efforts. He’s performed with Flannel Friday (formerly known as Kühnsland Band), Emberset, The Hate Game, and The Minus Scale.
A man of sonic extremes, bass player Jim Kuhns thumps out the low notes while filling in the wine glass-breaking high harmonies you thought only Mariah Carey could hit. Though the middle octaves are dead to him, his bass truly anchors WhiskeyTalk’s sound. Wailing on the Gibson since before the rest of the fellas were a glimmer in their fathers eyes, Jim has the maturity as a musician to tastefully bring it all together. Outside of music, he has the immaturity to give everyone hope that they, too, may someday never grow up. An alum of the Flannel Friday (formerly known as Kühnsland Band), Jim hangs his hat in Gloucester. He lives there too.
WhiskeyTalk played for both our cocktail hour and wedding reception, and we could not have had happier guests. The cocktail hour was mellow and acoustic; a perfect mix of blending in while some people were still humming along. They worked with us to come up with both our father-daughter dance, and the mother-son dance, and even let my sisters borrow the guitar and sound to sing for our first dance together. Our friends and family are still talking about the dance floor. WhiskeyTalk brought the energy we were hoping for, with a mix of crowd-pleasers and a few originals. If you want to remember stomping and spinning all over the dance floor, swinging your elbows, and singing out loud with everyone you love, hire WhiskeyTalk!

★★★★★ for WhiskeyTalk! I was lucky enough to have them play for my 50th birthday shindig. Such talent! From start to finish, they exceeded all of my expectations. They were laid back and super easy to work with, all while being professional, organized, and accommodating. WhiskeyTalk has a unique sound, able to take covers and make them their own. And the crowd seemed to love their originals just as much! These guys made my party and kept the energy alive all night long. Thank you, WhiskeyTalk!
